The International Contender World Championship is returning to the UK in 2028!
The Contender has been an established part of the UK dinghy scene since the first World Championship held at Hayling Island in 1970.
The class has over 100 active sailors in the UK and regularly has attendances of over 30 boats at National Championships.
The BCA will organise the event in conjunction with Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy. Many sailors in the UK have attended multiple World Championships, and have a very clear idea of the high standards expected at a Contender World Championship.
Where? Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA)
The Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA) remains one of the best purpose-built sailing venues in the world, with access to some outstanding sailing waters. The location provides easy access to Portland Harbour and Weymouth Bay, arguably some of the best sailing waters in the world.
Following the successful hosting of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic sailing events, WPNSA remains a busy and vibrant centre and a shining example of legacy. Activities range from the regular hosting of major events, attracting some of the best sailors in the world, to beginners taking to the water for the very first time, through the onsite sailing and boards sport schools.
